About us

SOPOT CHAMBER CHOIR CONTINUO

Our choir was created in 1986 as Gdansk University Chamber Choir. Our group became independent in 1990 and got patronage of the city of Sopot and Baltic Artistic Agency. That year we changed our name into Sopot Chamber Choir Continuo.

We have performed in Poland and abroad – in Germany, Holland, Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, France, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Lithuania, England, Wales, Scotland, Mexico and Brazil – promoting the culture of Sopot and Poland.

As well as little works á capella we sing great oratories, including Coronation Mass and Requiem by W. A. Mozart, Stabat Mater by G. Rossini, Deutches Requiem by J. Brahms, Requiem by J. Haydn, Nieszpory Ludzmierskie by J. K. Pawluskiewicz, Misa Criolla by A. Ramirez, Gloria by A. Vivaldi, Requiem dla mojego przyjaciela by Z. Preisner, Msza goralska by T. Maklakiewicz.

We have performed in musical theaters in Gdynia and Wroclaw and in Baltic Philharmonic Hall in Gdansk together with choirs, orchestras and bands from the Gdansk Coast. In July 1997 we took part in a charity concert for victims of the flood, and in June 1999 we welcomed the Pope to Sopot. We have also sung for the Municipal Social Service Centre, the Children’s Hospital, Caritas and the Hospice in Sopot.

We have recorded a cassete with various music and 4 records: one with Christmas carols together with State Chamber Orchestra in Słupsk and solists (among others Zbigniew Wodecki), the next one with Polish Christmas carols á capella and another one Ale Meksyk! with Mexican, Colombian and Aztec music. Our latest CD Hodie Christus Natus Est contains music from all over the world.

We invite choirs from different countries trying to present various culture of our guests to music lovers from Tricity. Since 2005 we have organized The International Choral Festival MUNDUS CANTAT in Sopot.

We have received various prizes and honourable mentions, among others in Hajnowka, Rumia, Chełmno, Olomlumiec (the Czech Republic), Montreaux (Switzerland), Riva del Garda (Italy), Puebla (Mexico) and Cabo Frio (Brazil).

Since the beginning of our existence we have given over 580 concerts. We come from every walk of life but we are united by our love for singing.
